First Church's Updates

Weekly Update for First Church of the Brethren, April 6, 2026

John 20:29

“Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”

Does Thomas deserve a bad rap for wanting physical proof of the Resurrection?    Is being known ever since as “Doubting Thomas”  fair?    After all, no one in history had – or has — experienced anything like what the disciples did.

There’s something to be said for “seeing is believing.”   It took the disciples the opportunity to see Him physically for them to believe and therefore be blessed.   And while we don’t get to see Him that same way today, we still absolutely CAN and DO get to see Him.   If we are looking, we see Him in nature.   We can see Him in scripture.   We can see Him in others, and we can see Him in the transformative ways He has changed us and our situations.

So, if we have seen, we are indeed blessed!

– Pastor Dave
