First Church's Updates
Weekly Update for First Church of the Brethren, March 2, 2026
1 Corinthians 10 :3 NIV
3 “They all ate the same spiritual food 4 and drank the same spiritual drink; for they drank from the spiritual rock that accompanied them, and that rock was Christ.”
In this scripture Paul is retracing the history of the Chosen People coming out of Egypt to the Promised Land… and, of course, then drawing some spiritual lessons from that history.
At least twice on that 40-year journey, God had Moses bring needed water forth from a rock, prompting some “experts” today to teach that this rock physically accompanied the Exodus. God could make that happen, if he so desired. But for us, I think the more appropriate lesson might be that no matter how long, no matter how difficult our journey in troubles and in the wilderness, the “Rock” that is Jesus Christ is right beside sustaining us.
When we partake of this spiritual water, our spirit can be sustained and encouraged. We can keep moving, making it to our own Promised Land.
